About Grace
Grace is God’s gift to undeserving humanity. It is available immediately at salvation. One of the cornerstones of grace is salvation (Ephesians 2:5-10).
And following salvation, grace becomes an ongoing unveiling of immeasurable riches through His kindness. It will continue for eternity for those whose names are written in the Lamb’s book of life. G.R.A.C.E. is God’s Riches At Christ’s Expense.
God’s love and grace are at the heart of the Bible’s message!
Jesus showed us how grace works through His teachings and His every action. He showed us how the Father thinks. How He operates with grace. Indeed, the Father’s vast love for us resulted in His ardent display of mercy and grace.
Jesus and Grace
John 1:14 CSB
The Word became flesh and dwelt among us. We observed his glory, the glory as the one and only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.
John 3:16-17 CSB
For God loved the world in this way: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.
We certainly all need it, but grace is not about us. Grace is about God. It is His initiative towards us. The word “grace” in the New Testament is translated from the Greek word χάρις (charis). It refers to “favour, blessing, or kindness.” Thayer’s definition: “of the merciful kindness by which God, exerting his holy influence upon souls, turns them to Christ, keeps, strengthens, increases them in Christian faith, knowledge, affection, and kindles them to the exercise of the Christian virtues.” The Old Testament Hebrew word חן (chên) means favour, grace, and acceptance.
Grace Unpacked: A closer look
Whenever the word grace is in connection with God, it refers to Him choosing to bless us. It is His immense goodness toward us. And when we are recipients of God’s grace, we are empowered to extend grace to others. Simply put, grace is God’s unmerited favour to the individual. You can remember it easily by each letter in the word:
The gospel message itself is the good news of God’s grace. You’ll gain a better understanding of the gospel when you know what grace is and how it benefits you as a believer. Grace is a fundamental part of the Father’s character.
Justin Holcomb says, “Grace is the most important concept in the Bible, in Christianity, and in the world. The shorthand for grace is ‘mercy, not merit,’” and one other author declared it to be “Better than we deserve, more than we imagine!” Grace is the radical life of Christ lived in you. Grace gives you the strength to love the unlovable, and forgive those that don’t deserve it in our human opinion, because you know how much you’re loved, and know how much you’ve been forgiven.“
Our favourite passage of scripture on the subject of Grace:
Ephesians 2:5-10 CSB
(He) made us alive with Christ even though we were dead in trespasses. You are saved by grace! He also raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavens in Christ Jesus, so that in the coming ages he might display the immeasurable riches of his grace through his kindness to us in Christ Jesus. For you are saved by grace through faith, and this is not from yourselves; it is God’s gift- not from works, so that no one can boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared ahead of time for us to do.
