Discovering His Grace

Resources for Christians

The love of the Heavenly Father

Father’s love

“I have loved you,” says the Lord. – Malachi 1:2a

God’s love and grace are two of the most important messages in the Bible. Throughout the book of Malachi, God passionately proclaims His love, and describes Himself as a loving father who longs for the honour of His people. He makes it so personal that He uses His own name to declare His love: The Hebrew reads “‘I have loved you,’ says יהוה (Yahweh).” The passion of a devoted Father is unmistakable.

Paul and son Nathanael

God’s love is a key message of Malachi and throughout scripture. God loves you! He wants to enjoy your company and bless you. Let it soak in! Throughout the chapters of Malachi, God’s people ask Him, “How have you loved us?” God repeatedly answers by giving examples of how much He loves them. It’s true – the Father’s love is firm and forever dependable.

Even if you have trouble grasping it, God loves you. Ponder the following scriptures affirming God’s deep love for YOU!

How much He loves you:

Romans 8:35 CSB
[35] Who can separate us from the love of Christ? Can affliction or distress or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword?

Romans 8:37-39 CSB
[37] No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. [38] For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, [39] nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Ephesians 3:19 CSB
[19] and to know Christ’s love that surpasses knowledge, so that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.

1 John 4:9 CSB
[9] God’s love was revealed among us in this way: God sent his one and only Son into the world so that we might live through him.

The healing power of God’s love

God‘s love is not only beautiful because it forms the framework of our relationship with Him, but it also has power. God‘s love “drives out fear.” Fear can tear down our freedom and wellbeing, even emotionally and physically. When love drives out fear, it opens up the possibility for us to be healed in mind and body. If we can fully grasp that we are well cared for and sheltered by our loving God, then our minds, souls and bodies can literally heal as we receive His love and believe that we’re secure in Him. Consider the potency of these verses:

1 John 4:18-19 CSB
[18] There is no fear in love; instead, perfect love drives out fear, because fear involves punishment. So the one who fears is not complete in love. [19] We love because he first loved us.

Romans 8:34 CSB
[34] Who is the one who condemns? Christ Jesus is the one who died, but even more, has been raised; he also is at the right hand of God and intercedes for us.

Psalm 27:1 CSB
[1] The LORD is my light and my salvation- whom should I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life- whom should I dread?

Psalm 91:1-2,15 CSB
[1] The one who lives under the protection of the Most High dwells in the shadow of the Almighty. [2] I will say concerning the LORD, who is my refuge and my fortress, my God in whom I trust: [15] When he calls out to me, I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble. I will rescue him and give him honor.
